USPTO announces pilot programme

10 Nov, 2015

In September 2015, the USPTO launched a new pilot program that allows trademark holders to amend the identification of goods and services in their trademark registrations if evolving technology has changed the manner or medium in which the goods or services are provided.  If the requirements of the program are met, a mark holder need not re-apply to register its mark (and lose the protection of the existing registration), but rather can simply request an amendment.  Mark holders who have registrations due for renewal in 2015-2016 may therefore want to review their portfolios to determine whether they can and should take advantage of this program.
